Village and The Hulk

In a particularly beautiful spot beside the Markermeer, safe in the arms of the 126-kilometre-long West Frisian Circular Dike (UNESCO World Heritage Site), lies lovely Scharwoude. The lengthy battle that the village fought against the Zuiderzee is not at all visible now that the high dike protects the village. Despite this, many parts of the village once disappeared into the waves.

This is the perfect spot for clearing your head. One way to do this is by casting a fishing line out into the Karperput or the Markermeer. If you prefer more activity, then opt for the cycling or walking network where you follow posts and signposts along the route you choose. Will it be the historical town of Hoorn that is located just around the corner or will you go for the tranquillity of the green polders that lie beyond?

De Hulk is located slightly north of the village. Just as green as the action hero, but in this case a beautiful nature reserve. You can walk, cycle, sail and fish there to your heart's content. And if you bring along your canoe you can transfer from the Markermeer to the inland canals or vice versa. Are you ready for another rest? Then relax on the waterside terrace at the pancake restaurant with the fun name ‘Ootje Konkel’.
